Heading Right

The Tea Party’s role in the debt ceiling debate have caused rifts within the GOP and caused some to question whether their influence will move the party even further to the right jeopardizing the all important independent vote while increasing the gridlock on Capitol Hill.

What do you think? Will the influence of the Tea Party lead to even more gridlock?

Bushwacked?

The Bush Tax Cuts continue to be a contentious issue between Democrats and Republicans. One side claims the cuts have created jobs while the other side believes they have delayed the recovery of the economy and putting Americans back to work.

What impact do you think the Bush tax cuts have had on the economy?

Free Speech?

A federal appeals court recently ruled that a California man’s racist post suggesting that then Presidential Candidate Obama be shot and that "He will have a 50 cal in the head soon" is constitutionally protected free speech, even though he was found to be in possession of several weapons including a .50 caliber rifle when arrested.

Do you agree? Free Speech or Criminal Hate Speech?

Attorney Alex Taylor joins the conversation to share his insights revolving this controversial case.

Too Arrogant

Many of the prophetic words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., an icon and legend, resound more relevant today than yesterday. When I think about what’s going on in our country, a profound statement by Dr. King comes to mind - “God has a way of standing before the nations with justice and it seems I can hear God saying to America, you are too arrogant ….” This statement bears truth as we are fighting four wars abroad while continuing to ignore the wars right here at home.

The America of the people, for the people and by the people seems to have been taken over by big corporations that are controlling the political, judicial and media strings of this country. Think about it! Our economy is still on life support thanks to the “Too Big to Fail” financial corporations. Millions are still unemployed, losing their homes while many of those responsible for this horrific crisis continue to earn million dollar salaries and bonuses thanks to their political cohorts in Congress. These same elected officials need to do a better job of explaining their pledge to retain the Bush tax cuts and corporate tax loopholes in the midst of our trillion dollar deficit. Where are the promised private sector jobs that were supposed to trickle down from the Bush tax cuts for the rich? Why must the unfair burden of sacrifice be on the middle class and working poor who in essence have already been robbed of the American Dream while corporate America thrives and the unemployment rate continues to climb?  President Obama has stated that “… our economy as a whole just isn’t producing nearly enough jobs for everyone who’s looking.”  Just how long are we, the American people going to remain silent and allow corporate America and their elected cronies to destroy this country?

Let’s stop trying to be the global police force and bring our troops home so that we can focus on our  domestic wars against a failing economy, unemployment and all of the other social ills affecting just about everyone who does not have the good  fortune to be in the top 1% of U.S. wage earners.  Then, let’s roll up our sleeves and get down to the nitty gritty and start to speak up, speak out and change the direction and arrogance that has permeated, and as of late, dominated the political landscape of our United States of America.

How Much Is Enough?

Fundraising has surpassed the $35 million dollar mark among  2012 GOP presidential hopefuls and a whopping $86 million dollars are already in the coffers for President Obama.

How do you feel about the increasingly obscene amount of money needed to fund campaigns, especially now in the midst of an economic downturn and budget crisis?

Tanya Free and Friends Podcast

Listen to a rebroadcast of today's show here on TanyaFree.com!

Post your comment or opinion. We want you to continue the conversation with us here.

 Our topics this week include:

"The Marriage Vow’ Pledge" signed by Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum that included:
"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President"
Why hasn’t there been more of an uproar, especially from Black conservatives?

A startling number of white-power candidates are seeking public office. Add to the growing list of candidates considering a bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 America’s most famous white-power advocate ,David Duke.

Where is the GOP headed?  This group makes the Tea Party look like moderates!

What's the Deal?

On again, off again deficit reduction negotiations on Capitol Hill have included possible cuts in Medicare and Social Security to offset proposed revenue increases. Advocacy groups including the AARP are urging lawmakers to reject any proposal that would cut the benefits seniors have earned through a lifetime of hard work.

What do you think? Should Social Security and Medicare be on the table?

According to British scientist Aubrey De Grey, the first person who will live to see 150 years old has already been born and the first person to live for 1,000 years could be less than 20 years away. If this prediction was medically possible, would you want to live to be 150, 500 or perhaps 1000 years old?

Criminal Behavior?

The recent arrest of a 20 year old University of New Mexico football player for refusing to pull up his sagging pants on a US Airlines flight in San Francisco has been labeled as a clear case of racism by the NAACP. An airline employee said that his pants were below his butt and his boxers were showing. Ironically, the airline had no problem allowing a man wearing a woman’s bathing suit, thigh high stockings and high heels to fly just days prior to the arrest of the football player.

How do you define indecent exposure?

Sagging pants or a scantily clad man in a woman’s bathing suit and heels?
